Scientology & me

Well, not me personally, as I do not have any business with the devious & dangerous cult of Scientology myself, other than having lost a member of my extended family to its following. But you'll have to see the BBC's excellent eponymous documentary which tracks the unpleasant experience of the Beeb's John Sweeney when approaching Scientology critically. Up until now, I thought that, surely, urban lore about the cult's nature is overdone, but now I think it's even worse! Have a look at the list of celebrities associated with Scientology - I'll avoid their work going forward.

You can also watch the documentary in three installments on Youtube.

I think your last statement is rather ludicrous. Are you saying that you are never going to watch another Simpsons episode in your life? Never listen to a Chaka Khan or Beck song? Never watch a Tom Cruise or John Travolta movie?

Are you going to avoid all the music produced by David Campbell, including albums by Alanis Morissette, Phil Collins, Bon Jovi, Mariah Carey, Kelly Clarkson, Elton John, Duran Duran, Leonard Cohen, Eric Clapton, Rod Stewart, Linkin Park, Evanescence, Avril Lavigne, Will Smith, Fort Minor, and Faith Hill?

If you're really going to avoid every piece of art, music, literature, etc. created by a follower of Scientology, I would have no choice but to question your tolerance of followers of religion. You cannot be agnostic, if you have such views. You would have to classify yourself as an atheist partial to certain faiths.

Scientology might be the most evil religion (if that's what it is) on earth, but:

1. I think most religions, though based on basic concepts such as peace, love, etc. are perverted by people in power to help them achieve their own goals. (and don't tell me some God from another planet sounds less plausible than, to quote George Carlin: "an invisible man - living in the sky - who watches everything you do, every minute of every day, [who] has a special place, full of fire and smoke and burning and torture and anguish, where he will send you to live and suffer and burn and choke and scream and cry forever and ever 'til the end of time... But He loves you!")

2. To block out or avoid everything that a Scientologist creates, even if you do not agree with or follow his/her faith, is idiotic and reminiscent of pre-emancipation USA.

Strange how such vociferous folk tend to remain anonymous online!
